District 86 school sponsorship policy poses questions

(MY SUBURBAN LIFE) - Corporate logos in classrooms dominated the debate at a high school district meeting this week.

Hinsdale Township High School District 86 officials said they will review how other school districts utilize corporate sponsorships and advertising to generate revenue before making any decisions.

The School Board decided Monday to send the issue to the district’s Policy Committee for further discussion before discussing the topic again as a full board.

“I think the timing is right to move forward and have a philosophical discussion about corporate sponsorships,” said District 86 Superintendent Nicholas Wahl. “It is a good time to discuss the topic because we will soon find out what the consumer price index is for the coming year, the Finance Committee is scheduled to meet soon and we can talk about potential revenue sources for the budget.”

A few months ago the board asked administrators to examine how other school districts deal with corporate sponsorships as a way to generate revenue.
